The Poppy Quilt was inspired by a quilt block I created for a collaborative community quilt project that raised mutual aid funds for Gaza in December 2023.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When that project concluded, I felt a strong need to continue channeling my creative energy toward maintaining awareness of the ongoing genocide, with the ultimate goal of raising more funds for mutual aid efforts.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All of the cotton fabric used in this quilt was dyed with plants that I foraged or grew over the course of 2 years, with the exception of a small floral piece on the back. The plants used for dyeing include madder, indigo, weld, goldenrod, marigold, redbud, oak, and sumac.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The quilt has an organic cotton batting. It is machine pieces and hand quilted with sashiko thread.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The raffle was organized by @makers4mutualaid
